Pacifica Graduate Institute is a profit-oriented American graduate school located in two campuses both near Santa Barbara, California. Established in 1976, the institute nevertheless traces its history back to 1971 when Regents of the University of California founded the Isla Vista Human Relations Center which later came to be known as Human Relations Institute. By 1987, it had started offering doctorate level programs and in 1989 was renamed Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Today, Pacifica offers Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in the fields of clinical psychology, counseling psychology, depth psychology, mythological studies, and engaged humanities.
Cost of attendance at the institute varies depending on whether one is a resident or a non-resident. For academic year 2009-2010, non-residential fees include all meals, shuttle transportation between accommodations and a day use fee for designated days classes are in session. The residential fee includes all these plus shared accommodations for the in-session nights and 10% Santa Barbara County occupancy use tax. Fees for M.A. in Counseling Psychology is US$5,118 for residential and US$2,852 for non-residential; for M.A. in Engaged Humanities with Emphasis in Depth Psychology, US$3,020 for residential and US$1,508 for non-residential; for Ph.D. Clinical Psychology, US$5,118 for residential and US$2,852 for non-residential; for M.A./Ph.D. Depth Psychology, US$3,963 for residential and US$2,265 for non-residential; for M.A./Ph.D. Mythological Studies, US$4,762 for residential and US$2,684 for non-residential; and finally, for Ph.D. Depth Psychology with Emphasis in Psychotherapy, US$4,762 for residential and US$2,684 for non-residential.
Financial aid is extended to students to help them pay for their cost of attendance. On-campus housing facilities are available to students of Pacifica Graduate Institute.
