Designated as the Military College of Georgia and likewise distinguished as a leadership institution, North Georgia College and State University (NGCSU) is one of only six senior military colleges in the US. It is also a coeducational public university which puts emphasis on strong liberal arts education while providing various pre-professional, professional, and graduate programs. It is located at the historic site of the first US gold rush in Dahlonega, Georgia, specifically at 82 College Circle.
Founded in 1873, North Georgia College and State University now occupies a 630-acre campus housing 69 buildings, parks and forests. The NGCSU Foundation has an additional property spanning 115 acres. Campus visits can be done through guided campus tours, special group tours, open houses or through self-paced tours through an IPOD.
The Academic Schools and Departments of North Georgia College and State University include the Mike Cottrell School of Business, School of Education, School of Arts and Letters, and the School of Science and Health Professions. Offered academic majors range from Accounting to Spanish with Teacher Certification. Honors courses are taught in seminar format for a maximum of 16 students in different areas of study such as biology, composition, government, history, language, literature, mathematics, philosophy, psychology, and sociology.
Aside from its main campus, NGCSU has also made available its programs in several other locations such as the Forsyth County and Gainesville. The Forsyth locations include the Cumming City Hall, The Lanier Technical College, the North Forsyth High School and the Professional Development Center. Estimated educational cost per semester is $ 5,142.00 for in-state students and $ 10,949.00 for out-of-state students inclusive of tuition, fees, room and board.
