Midstate College is a private, for-profit college established in 1888 in downtown Peoria, Illinois. The present Midstate College is an extensively expanded version of its original form which traces its origins as far back as 1857. During this time, a commercial school was started in Peoria. This and other similar schools were combined in 1888 and named Brown’s Business College of Commerce after being purchased by G.W. Brown. It was eventually sold to Arline H. Bunch and Company and adapted the name Midstate College of Commerce. The present name was used in 1965. The college is located at 411 W. Northmoor Road, Peoria, Illinois.
Academic offerings of Midstate College include Bachelor’s Degrees in Business Administration, Accounting, Health Services Management, Management Information Systems and Real-time Reporting; Associate Degrees in Administrative Professional, Business Administration, Business Computer Accounting, Computer and Information Science, Health Information Technology, Judicial Reporting, Medical Assistant and Paralegal Services; and Diploma Programs in Medical Coding Specialist, Medical Office Certificate, Medical Transcription and Office Assistant.
Tuition for 12 to19 credit hours per term is $ 4,200.00 while part-time attendance with credits less than 12 is charged $ 295.00 per credit hour. Administrative approval is required for credits beyond 19. When allowed, students are asked to pay $ 4,955.00 for 20 to 23 credits or $ 5,705.00 for 24 credits hours as tuition.
Degree completion programs are offered by Midstate College in Spoon River College, Heartland Community College, and Huntington Junior College. Some programs are also offered through the Illinois Veterans Administration. To qualify for a Midstate degree or program, one third of all credit hours should have been taken at Midstate College. The final quarter term or its equivalent should have also been taken at Midstate.
