North Park University was founded in 1891 by the Evangelical Covenant Church. It is an institution of higher learning that offers its programs founded on strong liberal arts traditions and the Christian faith. It went through the usual stages of development from being an academy, junior college, a four-year liberal arts college and finally a university with a theological seminary in 1997. Its main campus is located at 3225 W. Foster Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.
The university campus occupies more than 30 acres of property. Facilities have continuously been improved and renovated in the past years. Additions in facilities have also been undertaken such as the construction of the Helwig Recreation Center in 2006 and the Holmgien Athletic Complex in 2004.
The present student body is comprised of 1,882 undergraduate students, 994 graduate and seminary students, and 409 Continuing Studies students. The average class size is 18 while student/faculty ratio is 11:1. At least 77% of freshmen students and 53% of total undergraduate students are on-campus residents.
North Park University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission as well as other accreditation bodies for specific programs. Its undergraduate degree programs are comprised of 30 majors, 20 concentrations and several pre-professional programs. Some of its most popular majors include business/economics, nursing, communication, education, biology, psychology, and biblical/theological studies. Graduate degree and certificate programs are also offered.
The university has several satellite campuses located in various locations including Arlington Heights, Grayslake, and Waukegan. Full-time tuition for 12 to 17 hours per semester is estimated at $ 19,900.00 annually. Part-time tuition costs $ 730.00 per credit hour while overload tuition costs $ 500.00 per credit hour. Housing facilities cost $ 4,250.00 for double occupancy while a standard 15-meal plan costs $ 3,519.00 annually.
