Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) is a fully accredited public university governed by a Board of Trustees appointed by the governor of Illinois. Its main campus occupies a 67-acre property in a quiet residential community at 5500 N. St. Louis Avenue, Chicago, Illinois. It maintains three other campuses including the Chicago Teachers’ Center, the Jacob Carruther’s Center for Inner City Studies and the El Centro. These campuses are located in various locations in Chicago.
NEIU-El Centro is the university’s serving academic center for the Latino community. NEIU was founded in 1867 as a teacher training institution. Programs are offered through the College of Arts, College of Business and Management, and the College of Education. Non-traditional Degree Programs include the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies (BAIS) and the University Without Walls Program.
At present, NEIU offers 37 undergraduate majors, 45 minors and 31 graduate degrees. Undergraduate majors and minors range from Accounting to Women’s Studies while graduate degrees range from Accounting to Special Education. Most of the coursework offered at the Graduate College are scheduled during the late afternoon and evening hours to accommodate part-time students. Full-time graduate students are expected to plan accordingly.
Estimated annual cost per academic year for a 12-credit hour semester load is $ 24,564.60 inclusive of $ 6,240.00 for tuition, $ 1,251.60 for fees, $ 1,560.00 for books and supplies, $ 2,178.00 for transportation, $ 4,515.00 for personal expenses and $ 8,820.00 for room and board. Continuing Education students are charged an approximate amount of $ 24,204.60 for the same inclusive items. The Graduate and Teacher Certificate Program costs about $ 22,387.20 while a 2nd Bachelor Degree Program costs about $ 24,564.60 for two semesters.
