Principia College is a private, coeducational, four-year liberal arts college located in Elsah, Illinois. Founded in 1910, Principia College’s main mission is to serve the cause of Christian Science and to provide the students of Christian Science with a comprehensive, coeducational program of liberal arts and sciences. Notwithstanding its mission to uphold the cause of Christian Science, Principia College does not maintain any affiliation with the Christian Science Church nor the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Primarily a liberal arts learning institution, Principia College offers students hands-on learning to supplement its classroom instruction across a wide-range of majors. Students are led by their teachers to fields and streams and other onsite venues to gather knowledge or apply what is taught within the four walls of the classroom to real-life situations.
Cost of attendance at the college for academic year 2010-2011 for fulltime students is US$32,625. This includes cost of tuition of US$23,625; cost of a typical room of US$4,380; and cost of meals/board at US$4,620. Aside from these college expenses, students also have to set aside funds for expenses for books at US$900; student activity fee of US$325; technology fee of US$15; athletic fee of US$15, and estimated personal expenses of US$750. Financial aid by way of loans, grants, scholarships and work-study arrangements is extended by the college to help its students pay for their cost of attendance.
