Quincy University is a private, four-year liberal arts university located in Quincy, Illinois. Founded in 1860, the university is grounded in the Franciscan tradition and values of respect and social justice. Initially established as St. Francis Solanus College, the school was initially tasked to serve the educational needs of the German-speaking population of the frontier state of Illinois. Eventually, the school became a perfect training ground for young men training to become Franciscan priests. Thus in 1917, the school’s name was changed to Quincy College and Seminary. It was not until the late 1980s when the college became officially known as Quincy University.
Today, the university grants associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees as well as non-professional certificates on a wide-range of fields. With a mission to train its students to “engage the world around them,” the university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various subjects through its academic divisions and schools: Division of Behavioral & Social Sciences; Fine Arts & Communication; Humanities; Professional Studies; Business; and Education and Science & Technology.
Cost of attendance at Quincy University for academic year 2010-2011 is US$31,960 for fulltime, resident students broken down into US$22,240 for annual tuition; US$4,930 for an average room rental; US$4,030 for an average meal plan; and US$760 for general fees made up of the student activity fee and the technology fee.
