Saint Joseph’s College in Indiana, or Saint Joe as its students fondly call it, is a private, coeducational Roman Catholic liberal arts college located in Rensselaer, Indiana. Founded in 1889 by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, Saint Joseph College continues to maintain its reputation as a leading institution of learning although what it is well-known for is its groundbreaking Core Education Program whereby students learn the basics of history, political science, natural science, literature, and philosophy in integrated “core classes.”
To date, there are approximately 1,000 students attending Saint Joseph’s College ably guided in their quest for higher education by fulltime faculty members, 72% of whom have a Ph.D. or the highest degree possible in their chosen fields. With a student to faculty ratio of 15 to 1 and the average class size made up of no more than 14 students, attendees of Saint Joseph College are able to enjoy focused instruction and one-on-one interaction with their teachers. Estimated cost of attendance for academic year 2010-2011 for fulltime students is US$34,920 for students living on campus; US$29,940 for commuter students living with their family; and US$36,830 for commuter students living independently. These costs include tuition and fees, room and board, books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses. To ensure that its students are able to pay for their cost of tuition and fees, the college extends financial aid in the form of loans, grants, scholarships and work-study programs for qualified students. .
