Mount Mercy College was founded in 1928 by the Sisters of Mercy as a junior college. It has evolved into a baccalaureate and graduate degree-granting institution with more than 35 major areas of study. It is located at 1330 Elmhurst Drive, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The college is comprised of various academic departments including Applied Philosophy, Art. Biology, Business Administration, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Education, English, Health Services, Administration, History, International Studies, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Medical Technology, Music, Nursing, Outdoor Conservation, Political Science, Psychology, Religious Studies, Social Work, Sociology, Speech/Drama, Pre-Professional Program, Accelerated Program and Graduate Program. The Accelerated Programs for Working Adults are offered in the main campus as well as in Monticello and Cedar Valley through the college’s partnership with Kirkwood Community College and Hawkeye Community College. Tuition rates for Accelerated Courses cost $ 395.00 per credit hour.
Full-time tuition for undergraduate courses cost $ 22,100.00 per academic year for a 12 to 16 semester hour load. Part-time tuition for 1 to 11.5 semester hours amounts to $ 610.00 per credit hour. Rooms for double occupancy option cost about $ 1,676.00 per semester while an average meal plan of 14 meals per week cost $ 1,816.00 per semester.
Almost 1,500 students are currently enrolled with Mount Mercy College. The average class size is 17. Students are expected to make use of on-campus housing facilities for the first four semesters of full-time attendance. Housing options range from two-person rooms to eight-person suites.
Some of the facilities found in the campus are the Busse Library, the Hennessey Recreation Center and Lundy Commons. Lundy Commons is a place where students, faculty and staff can relax and socialize. Several dining facilities are also available.
