New York Technical Institute, the forerunner of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), opened in 1910. However, it was only in 1955 that New York Institute of Technology was granted a provisional charter by the New York State Board of Regents thus the opening of its very first campus in New York City. New York Institute of Technology has currently two US campuses located in Old Westbury and Manhattan in New York as well as an extension site in Central Islip, also in New York. Its various global campuses can be found in Abu Dhabi, UAE; Amman, Jordan; Nanjing, China; Manama, Bahrain; Vancouver, Canada; and Jiangxi, Shanghai, China. As a private, independent, nonsectarian and coeducational institution, New York Institute of Technology provides career-oriented professional education through its various programs offered by its schools and colleges.
