North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A & T) is a public, land-grant university founded in 1890. It was established as the Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race and operated as an annex of Shaw University during its early years. It has occupied its permanent home since 1893 which is located at 1601 E Market Street, Greensboro, North Carolina.
N.C. A & T occupies an impressive 200-acre campus supplemented by a 600-acre university farm. This set-up is especially useful for its high research activity both for scholarly and creative purposes. It is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.
Programs are provided by the university’s schools and colleges which include the School of Technology, School of Business and Economics, School of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, School of Nursing, School of Interdisciplinary Studies and School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Other academic options are given through Distance Learning Degree Programs and Certificate Programs. A total of 184 degree programs are offered comprised of 117 undergraduate majors, 58 master’s majors and 9 doctoral majors.
The on-campus housing facilities offer at least three housing environments. Students get to choose from traditional male students only halls, traditional female students only halls and the suite-style coed option. All students residing on campus are required to have a meal plan. In the absence of any specified meal plan, the university shall automatically select Plan A which costs $ 1,200.00 per semester and consists of 19 meals per week.
In-state tuition rates are $ 997.00 for a 12-hour or more undergraduate program or $ 1,133.00 for a 9-hour or more graduate program. Their out-of-state counterparts are charged $ 5,718.00 or $ 5,925.50, respectively. Tuition rates per credit are as follows: $ 80.00 for resident undergraduate, $ 386.00 for non-resident undergraduate, $ 111.00 for resident graduate and $ 581.00 for non-resident graduate.
