North Carolina State University is a land-grant university founded in 1887 as the North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. It was primarily established to provide teaching, research and extension services to the North Carolina residents. It is located at 2101 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, North Carolina.
More than 300 undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered by the university’s 65 departments under its colleges. These colleges are comprised of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Design, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Management, College of Natural Resources, College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, College of Textiles, and the College of Veterinary Medicine. The First-Year College provides intense academic and career advising to incoming students. The heart of the university’s vast research community is its Graduate School which offers programs in at least 100 areas of study plus various interdisciplinary options, certificate programs and minors.
There are about 33,879 students presently enrolled in North Carolina State University coming from all North Carolina counties and at least 107 foreign countries. The faculty is composed of 2,132 teaching, research and extension faculty plus 316 field faculty. The administrative and support staff is comprised of 6,087 individuals.
North Carolina State University established its Centennial Campus which serves as a national model for university research campuses. Aside from the Colleges of Engineering, Textiles and Veterinary Medicine, it houses more than 130 companies, government agencies as well as various research and academic units. The 1,334-acre campus also houses a magnet middle school, residential housing, executive conference center and hotel, golf course, town center and recreational amenities. Full-time undergraduate tuition per semester is estimated at $ 2,763.50 for North Carolina residents and $ 9,006.00 for non-residents.
