Officially chartered by the State of North Carolina in 1956, North Carolina Wesleyan College was the answer to a petition made by the people of Rocky Mount to have a college in their community. A 200-acre site was donated by the heirs of M.C. Braswell for the use of the college. It is located at 3400 N. Wesleyan Blvd., Rocky Mount, North Carolina. It has been granted accreditation by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate degrees.
The college is a four-year coeducational, liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Its campus houses six residence halls, nine academic and main buildings, the Performing Arts Center and several outdoor athletic facilities. It also maintains two campuses located in Goldsboro and (Triangle) Morrisville, North Carolina which offer Adult Degree Programs. The Goldsboro Campus is located at 139 W. Walnut Street while the Triangle Campus can be found at 2000 Perimeter Park Drive.
At least 800 students are enrolled in the traditional Rocky Mount Programs while about 900 students are enrolled in evening college programs offered at the three campuses. Degrees offered include the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science. Student/faculty ratio is 17:1.
On-campus resident freshmen students are charged an educational cost amounting to $ 29,440.00 for an academic year inclusive of tuition, room and board. International students are charged an additional $ 400.00 for insurance. Estimated expenses for books, travel and personal expenses amount to $ 2,360.00
There are at least 20 undergraduate programs offered by the college. The offered majors range from Accounting to Special Education. Degree programs are categorized into four divisions: Business, Education and Social Sciences, Humanities, and Math and Sciences. The 2+ Wesleyan Program is offered in cooperation with community colleges in the area.
