Abilene Christian University, originally called the Childers’ Classical Institute, was founded in 1906 by A.B. Barret. In 1914, the name changed to Abilene Christian College (ACC) when accredited college classes were offered to the students. In 1955, ACC received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and in 1976, the ACC became known as the Abilene Christian University. The ACU has gone a long way from having just 25 students at the year of inception to becoming one of the largest private universities of the South West.
Abilene Christian University has received numerous awards as testament to the quality of online courses available to students. The ACU ranked first in the category “Up and Coming School”, and in 2010 ranked 20th in the US News and World Report’s annual list of America’s Best Colleges. It also received the ACUTA (Association for Information Communications Technology Professionals in Higher Education) Institutional Excellence Award for it’s innovative approach to education through technology. The ACU is also just one of six universities to receive the CIO 100 award which is given to institutions that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in IT.
Abilene Christian University offers online degrees in Master in Education, Master in Education in Higher Education, Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation and Master of Science in Organisational and Human Resource Development. The tuition fees for these online programs vary, as do the course application requirements. As for financial aid, US citizens and permanent residents have full access to federal financial aid and some online programs accept VA Benefits such as the Montgomery GI Bill as tuition payment. Details on online tuition fees, application requirements, and financial aid can be discussed with an ACU Admissions Counsellor.
