California State University – Monterey Bay (CSUMB) was established in 1994 in Seaside, California, as the 21st campus of the CSU system. It received a check for $15 to fund its first two years and since then has grown to a total student population of more than 4000. CSUMB also ranks first in terms of highest average research grant funding awarded per faculty member in the entire CSU system.
CSUMB offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in more than 18 fields of study. It also offers a 100% online graduate degree program – Executive MBA. Some programs also have courses, called distributed courses, which offer a blend of online classes and face-to-face interactions. There are also courses that offer additional materials online.
Application to CSUMB is done online through the applications website called CSUMentor. At CSUMentor everything an applicant needs is available from the online application forms to admission requirements for freshman, transfer, and graduate students and financial aid information.
Tuition at CSUMB per semester is estimated at $2772 for full-time undergraduate students and $3414 for full-time graduate students. Non-resident tuition is at $339 per semester credit with a maximum of $10,170 per academic year.
About 70% of CSUMB student’s receive financial aid in the form of grants, scholarships and loans. An additional 10% of the students also work on campus on a CSUMB-funded student assistant employment program.
CSUMB has been granted initial accreditation by the Western Associate of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is currently in the process of a two-part reaffirmation review.
