Established in 1964, Nova Southeastern University, which was known back then as Nova University, started out with a focus on the physical and social sciences. The university has since developed more programs to cover law, education, business, psychology, computer science, and oceanography. It also started an off-campus program in education in 1972. The university has developed a strong foundation in distance learning, thus addressing the changing needs of the public for accessible quality education.
Nova Southeastern University offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral online programs in various fields of study. This allows students to take their courses no matter where they are based, as long as an Internet connection is available. The programs and technological platform are designed in such a way as to facilitate interaction between the student and the teacher, as well as among students.

In order to apply for admission, whether entering college for the first time, transferring from another college, availing of the Dual Admission Program, or studying as an international student or as a working adult, an application form needs to be completed either online or in print. Nova Southeastern University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Furthermore, 76 of the university’s online programs are certified by the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus.
