The Union Institute & University (UI&U) is a non-profit private college that focuses on distance learning for busy adult learners. Its main campus is located in Cincinnati, Ohio but it maintains satellite campuses in Montpelier, Vermont; Brattleboro, Vermont; Miami, Florida; Los Angeles, California; and Sacramento, California.
UI&U traces its beginnings to 1964 with the creation of a consortium of 10 liberal arts colleges who banded together for the purpose of providing educational opportunities for nontraditional students whose educational needs were best served by distance learning. Eventually, however, problems in sourcing funds forced the consortium to declare bankruptcy and in 2001, it renamed itself Union Institute & University and started to operate as an independent private university.
Today, UI&U continues to pursue its noble goal of fulfilling the educational needs of adult learners. It offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Master of Education/Educational Specialist in various concentrations. It also offers a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies, Doctor of Education and Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology.
