University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is public university that is a member of the University System of Maryland (USM) and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. UMBC is known for being an excellent research university and is in fact ranked by the Carnegie Foundation as worthy of being in the category of Research Universities with high research activity.
UMBC is very proud of its one and only online program – the Online Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program. UMBC was recently recognized by the “Computing Research News” for having being number 2 in terms of IT degree awarded by research universities in the United States. This includes the degree awarded trough the online MS program.
Students who graduate from the online MSIS program get not only the same excellent IT curriculum as campus-based students but also do not have to worry about accreditation, since the online program is also accredited.
Basic admission requirements for applicants to the online MSIS program must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college (or equivalent), have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language fluently. Hence, applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit TOEFL scores. Official transcripts are not required for online applications but must be submitted before the admissions process can be fully completed.
