A Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences, Messiah College was founded in 1909 by the Brethren in Christ Church. It continues to emphasize theological heritage of the Anabaptist, Pietist and Wesleyan tradition although no longer legally owned by its founding church. Its present faith base is broadly evangelical catering to most mainline denominations and various Christian faiths.
