Patten University is a private institution of higher education located in Oakland, California. Founded in 1944 as the Oakland Bible Institute by Dr. Bebe Patten, an Evangelical Preacher affiliated with the Christian Evangelical Churches of America, Patten University also became an affiliate university of the Church of God in Cleveland, Tennessee.
As declared in its mission statement, the goal of Patten University is “to provide an excellent education on the undergraduate and graduate levels that integrates growing faith and quality learning to inspire and equip men and women for Christian ministry and service to effect community and global transformation.”
Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and authorized by the California State Board of Education, Patten University offers bachelor’s and associate’s degrees in such fields as business, religion, liberal arts and sciences. It also provides Master’s degrees in education and business management and offers Weekend Science Courses. The university offers its various programs through its four major divisions that include the Division of Arts, Sciences and Business; Division of Biblical and Theological Studies; Division of Continuing and Extended Education; and Division of Education.
Estimated cost of tuition and fees for academic year 2009-2010 for fulltime undergraduate students is US$20,530 broken down into one whole year’s tuition of US$13,440 and room and board cost of US$7,090. Per unit cost of tuition for students with a load of over 16 credits is US$360 while cost for load below 12 units is US$560. To help students settle their cost of attendance, the university is extending financial aid in the form of loans, grants and scholarships for qualified students.
