Methodist University opened as the Methodist College in 1960 as a senior, coeducational, liberal arts institution. It was established as a joint venture between the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church and the citizens of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. It gained university status in 2006.
Located at 5400 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, North Carolina, Methodist University occupies a 617-acre campus housing 36 buildings, an amphitheater and several indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Its nine residence halls can accommodate 975 students. Campus tours are given all year round but are especially encouraged during the Fall and Spring Terms for prospective students to get a real feel of the university.
Methodist University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Over 70 majors and concentrations plus three master’s degree programs are offered including the Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant Studies, the Master of Business Administration in Organizational Management and Leadership, and the Master of Justice Administration. Online courses are likewise offered to day and night programs.
The student body is comprised of 1,600 day students and 600 night and weekend students from 48 states and 42 foreign countries. Average class size is 20 while student/faculty ratio is 15:1. More than 70 clubs, societies and student organizations provide relevant extracurricular activities to students.
The estimated annual educational cost for resident students is $ 31,438.00 inclusive of tuition, average room rate, meal plan and basic fees. Evening, weekend and summer classes cost $ 235.00 per credit hour while online students are charged $ 275.00 per credit hour. Commuting students taking the Physician Assistant Program are expected to shell out about $ 62,755.00 in tuition cost for two years.
