Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is a coeducational liberal arts institution founded in 1968. It was established by the Church of the Nazarene to serve the denomination’s East Central region. It is located at 800 Martinsburg Road Mount Vernon, Ohio and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
MVNU’s curriculum is organized under six academic schools namely Arts and Humanities, Business, Education and Professional Studies, Natural and Social Sciences, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Theology and Philosophy. Under each School are different departments offering programs in specific areas of study. Under the School of Arts and Humanities are the Art Department, Communication Department, English Department, Graphic Design Department, History Department, Modern Languages Department, and the Music Department.
The School of Business has the departments of Business as well as the Adult and Graduate Studies. The School of Education and Professional Studies offers its programs through the Education Department, Family and Consumer Sciences Department, Physical Education Department and Social Work Department. The School of Natural and Social Sciences offers programs in Biology, Chemistry/Physical Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Psychology/Sociology and Criminal Justice. The School of Nursing and Health Sciences has the Nursing Department while the School of Theology offers its programs through the Christian Education Department, Philosophy Department and Religion Department.
Estimated educational cost amounts to $ 27,680.00 per year inclusive of tuition, general fee, health care, room and food service. Tuition overload fee is $ 609.00 per credit while part-time tuition is $ 739.00 per credit hour.
MVNU’s Adult and Graduate Studies (AGS) are offered in various other sites aside from its main campus. The other MVNU sites are found in Cincinnati, Columbus, Gahanna, Grove City, Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Mount Vernon and Newark. More than 1,300 students are enrolled in the AGS Programs.
